What's actually on the FLK2 syllabus
Share
FLK2 is the second knowledge paper in SQE1, and the SRA syllabus for it covers six areas.
Here's what's actually in each one, in the order I'd suggest learning them in, not necessarily the order your course teaches them in or the order the SRA lists them. Pairing each substantive area with its practical counterpart (Land Law before Property Practice, Criminal Law before Criminal Practice), and putting Trusts before Wills since trust concepts come up again once you're into estates, made it easier for me to see how the topics actually connect rather than learning six separate blocks.
Trusts
How trusts are created, a trustee's duties and powers, the different types of trust, and what happens when a trustee breaches their duties.
Wills and the Administration of Estates
What makes a will valid, the intestacy rules that apply when someone dies without one, obtaining a grant of probate or letters of administration, and distributing an estate - including inheritance tax.
Land Law
The substantive law behind property: registration, easements, covenants, mortgages, co-ownership, and leases.
Property Practice
The conveyancing process for both freehold and leasehold property, registered and unregistered land, mortgages, and the practical issues that come up between a landlord and tenant during a transaction.
Criminal Law
The elements of criminal liability and specific offences.
Criminal Practice
Criminal procedure — police powers, the court process, and the basics of sentencing.
Solicitors' Accounts
The SRA Accounts Rules: how client money has to be handled, keeping ledgers correctly, and the practical accounting a solicitor needs to get right to stay compliant.
Professional Conduct & Ethics runs through FLK2 the same way it does FLK1 — tested inside scenarios across all six areas rather than as its own separate topic.
What Content Do You Actually Need To Know?
Same problem as FLK1: knowing the list above isn't the hard part, every course provider publishes a version of it. Knowing exactly which specific principles you HAVE to know and parts you've actually got solid notes on is. That's what the SQE Master Workbook: FLK2 is built to fix, questions mapped to each syllabus point, with space to write the answer yourself, so you can create a complete set of notes.
